In one of the most anticipated tournaments of the season the Varsity Turnstone Flyers wheelchair basketball team finish 5th at the Midwest Junior Regional Tournament January 3 & 4, 2009 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
With the top teams from both the West and East coast flying in to competing against 12 of the top teams in the nation all battling for the final few bids to Varsity nationals which will be held in Denver, CO.
The Flyers started off strong defeating Long Island Lightning 56-33 and Michigan Junior Thunderbirds 57-51 which set up a quarterfinal match-up between the Seattle Jr. Sonics vs. Flyers. The Sonics broke out an early 18 point lead; however, after a few timeouts and defensive adjustments the Flyers came back and cut the lead to only 9 points at half-time. The Sonics extended their lead again in the second half but the relentless Flyers scratch and crawled with two three pointers from Kyle Killworth and another from Josh Swoverland to bring the game within reach at 61-52; however, the Sonics controlled the offensive boards and scored too many second point chances as they defeated the Flyers 69-52
On Sunday, January 4, 2009 the Flyers took care of business and defeated both the Milwaukee Heat 47-20 and Minnesota Royals 59-45 in the consolation games to finish 5th overall.

Both the Prep and Varsity Flyers will be heading to Xavier University Jan. 24, 2009; Windy City Tourney February 7 & 8, 2009; Midwest Conference Tournament in Grand Rapids, MI Feb. 21 & 22, 2009.
Both teams are looking to finish their season strong in hopes to qualify for nationals in Denver, CO: Prep Division games will begin Saturday March 21, 2009 – Sunday March 22, 2009.
Varsity Division games will begin play Thursday March 19, 2009 – Saturday March 21, 2009.
