Sled Hockey Practices

Next two Sled Hockey practices at McMillen Ice Arena (3901 Abbott Street. Fort Wayne, IN 46806)
  • Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 6:15 – 8:15pm
  • Monday, March 9, 2009 from 6:45 – 7:45pm

$5 drop in cost per participant. All equipment is provided. Recommend arriving 30 minutes before practice starts to get suited up.

**The April 6 practice has been canceled. Stay tuned for future practice dates.

Also below is info on an opportunity to play sled hockey for a few hours down in Indy. Should be a great time. Hope you can join us.

Midwest Conference:

Please read the information below:

The Great Lakes Regional Games will be held May 29-31, 2009. This regional qualifier is open to novice athletes as well as the competitive elite. Competition will include track, field, swimming, archery and boccia. We will also be having a tennis and ambulatory soccer demonstration. The games will be taking place at Libertyville High School just north of Chicago . Competition is open to athletes of all ages with a physical and/or visual disability. This will be a Wheelchair Sports, USA sanctioned event and a qualifier for those looking to compete at National Junior Disability Championships this July in St. Louis . We hope to see you there!

Please pas this information along to your athletes so that those who are interested will be able to compete.

Varsity Flyers #1 at Midwest Conference Championships…Prep Flyers finish 2nd

At the Midwest Conference Championship (February 21 & 22, 2009) in Grand Rapids, MI both the Prep and Varsity Turnstone Flyers wheelchair basketball teams earned their way09-varsity-flyers-midwest-conference-champs1 to the finals with both games decided by 2 points. The Varsity Flyers defeated the Milwaukee Heat 56-54 while the Prep Flyers lost to the Sterling Heights Challengers 19-17.

**Ryan Haynes from the Milwaukee Heat hit two 3 pointers in the final minute to keep the game close; however the Flyers hanged on. There’s a history of close games between the two teams as just two weeks ago at the Windy City Classic the Flyers snuck by with a game wining elbow shot from Josh Swoverland in the final seconds to win  55-54.

This valentines weekend (February 14 & 15, 2009) the first annual Bob Chase Frostbite Sled Hockey Championships will be held at McMillen Ice Arena (3901 Abbott Street. Fort Wayne, IN 46806). Prep Flyers Wins 2nd straight tourney while Varsity team finishes 3rd at the Windy City Classic (February 7 & 8, 2009)

In back-to-back Chicago tourneys the Prep Flyers go undefeated 7-0 and look strong as they head into the Midwest Conference Championship February 20 & 21, 2009.

In both the Semifinals & Championship game for the Prep Flyers were National like intensity. Both the Rowdies and Warriors played extremely well in the 1st half; however, in the 2nd half the Flyers went a combine 26-7 against both teams to secure the victory.

Defending National Champions and current #1 Junior team in the nation the Minnesota Timberwolves and #3 Wheelin Wizards gave the #8 Flyers a new understanding of what it’ll take to compete with the big 3 in the nation. The Flyers looked good against the Wizards however ran out of steam in the 2nd half.
