What: Great Lakes Regional Games for athletes with physical disabilities and/or visual impairments
Events: Archery, Boccia, Field, Handcycling, Swimming and Track

Who: Athletes with permanent physical disabilities and/or visual impairments ages 6 years through adult who are interested in competitive athletics. Disabilities may include but are not limited to: amputation, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, osteogenesis imperfecta, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, visual impairment or blindness. Open to the novice thru elite athlete.
Fees: A registration fee for all athletes of $25.00 will include competition and a games shirt. Checks should be payable to GLASA and sent with registration packets to: GLASA 400 E. Illinois Rd. Lake Forest, IL 60045.
*All athletes competing in track, field, swim, hand cycling and archery must also be registered with Wheelchair Sports, USA as either a full member or a recreational athlete. WSUSA application available online at www.wsusa.org
*All athletes competing in boccia must also be registered with Blaze Sports. Blaze sports application available online at www.blazesports.org
Deadlines: Registration packets and fees must be RECEIVED by Friday May 8, 2009. Late registration will be accepted until 4:00 PM Friday, May 22, 2009 and must include a $10.00 per athlete late fee.
Classification: Events will be heated based on classification, age and seed times. Due to limited numbers in some classifications, athletes in different classifications may be heated together. All awards will be based on classification, age and gender. Please contact Cindy Housner at (847) 283-0908 or chousner@glasa.org for more information or to request classification.
Transportation: All athletes and teams are responsible for their own transportation.
Parking: For boccia, please park in the administrative lot, just off Park Ave (Rt. 176) and enter through the West gym doors. For swimming, please park in the Northwest parking lot and enter the building through the main entrance. For track, please park in the Northeast parking lot right in front of the track. Please be considerate with where you park your trailers.
Hotel Info: Rooms have been held for Friday 5/29 and Saturday 5/30 at the following two hotels with a discounted rate if you mention Great Lakes Regional Games. Rooms will only be held through April 30, 2009!

Meals: Athletes, coaches and spectators will be able to purchase lunch at the competition venues on both Saturday and Sunday for a nominal fee.
Socials: There will be a cook-out on Saturday May 30, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the North Pavilion at Adler Park. This cook-out is open to all athletes, coaches and family members and will be $5.00 per person. Please include this with your check for registration.
Sanctioning: Wheelchair Sports, USA
Athletes can qualify for competition at the National Junior Disability Sports Championships by meeting the qualifying standards in their respective events. NJDC is a yearly competition for those athletes meeting the qualifying standards in their sport. Over 250 athletes with physical and visual disabilities will compete at NJDC 2009 in St. Louis this July.
Peer Mentoring: Sponsored in cooperation with Disabled Sports, USA this is a new program designed to provide you with a volunteer mentor while you are competing at the Great Lakes Regional Games. Mentors will provide competitors with encouragement and support during the games. Mentors will be matched base on availability. If you are interested please be sure to check this off on the registration form.

Additional Information: Athletes must bring their own equipment including racing chairs, helmets, boccia ramps and field chairs. Great Lakes Regional Games will provide field implements as well as archery equipment. ALL racers will be required to wear helmets while competing in track, race running and hand- cycling. If an athlete needs a guide runner to be provided please contact the GLASA office no later than May 1, 2009!
