During the middle of the tournament the games were paused to honor Laurie Williams who passed away July 9, 2007. A framed jersey In Memory of Laurie will be displayed at Turnstone with the following words:

Laurie was a valued member of the inaugural Flyers Power Soccer team. Through her determination and competitive spirit she inspired us all to reach higher. Never one to sit on the sidelines in life or in her new found sport; she always displayed a positive and supportive attitude to her teammates and everyone she met. She exemplified toughness by playing through a major tournament after suffering an injury, which she would not discuss for fear it would keep her sidelined. A True Champion, she is loved, missed and most of all… will always be remembered.

Above: Group picture of both the Turnstone Fearless Flyers (Yellow) and Courage Thunder (Blue) from Minnesota. Teams played in D2 USPSA National Championship Game. Fearless won 3-1.

A grinding season in Power Soccer has come to an end after endless amount of conference and regional tourneys the top 20 Power Soccer teams in the nation found their way to Fishers, IN (June 19-21, 2009) to play in the USPSA National Tournament.

At last years D2 championship game the two Fort Wayne, IN teams battled it out for the top spot as the Turnstone Fantastic Flyers edge out their sister team Fearless 2-1 for the top honors.  Fast forward to the current 2009 season… the younger Fearless team came back more determined to claim their own championship.  The journey wasn’t easy but after going 16-1 in the regular season the team looked to be in prime shape for nationals.  Their only hiccup (loss) was to the Courage Thunder 2-0 on Thunders home court in late March.

Speeding up to Nationals this year… Fearless rolled through the first rounds vs: BORP Crushers, GLASA Chicago Fire, Kokomo Spinnders, and North Georgia Screamin’ Eagles by allowing ZERO goals as they advanced to the Semifinal versus their fearless competitor Fantastic before moving on the showdown vs the Courage in the Championship game.

In the D2 Championship match was the fast pace game everyone expected.  The Thunder came charging in to score the first goal; however, before the Courage could look up, Fearless came back with 3 unanswered goals to win their first National Championship and bragging rights until next year.

In the D1 Championship game the Circle City Rollers defeated Atlanta Synergy 4-3 shootout.  Just like Fearless, the Rollers were runner up in their respective division last season before advancing to the top spot this year.
